Commercial Operation Begins at Goi Thermal Power Station Unit 2
JERA Co., Inc., ENEOS Power Corporation, and Kyushu Electric Power Company have exciting news about their work at the Goi Thermal Power Station! Through their joint project, Goi United Generation LLC, they have successfully launched a new and advanced power unit. Today, Unit 2 of the Goi Thermal Power Station has officially started its commercial operations.
Unit 2 is special because it uses a high-tech system called the LNG-fired Gas Turbine Combined Cycle, or GTCC. This means it uses natural gas, specifically Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), to power a very efficient gas turbine. The new system can generate a large amount of electricity—780 megawatts (MW) to be exact! That’s enough to help make sure there is a steady and reliable supply of electricity for many people.
Wärtsilä engines to deliver reliable power for generating facility
One of the best parts about this new power unit is that it’s not only powerful but also kind to the environment. It is one of the most advanced thermal power plants in the world, known for its top-level efficiency in generating electricity. The new system is designed to create less pollution, especially when it comes to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This means that Unit 2 is helping to reduce the impact on the environment, making it a greener option for energy.
The team of JERA, ENEOS, and Kyushu Electric is not stopping here. They plan to keep working on more state-of-the-art updates at the Goi Thermal Power Station, aiming to make the power supply even more stable and environmentally friendly. Their goal is to keep modernizing the plant so that it can provide clean and reliable energy for the future.
