DemoSATH Floating Wind Project Secures Final Prototype Certification from Bureau Veritas

Milestone Reached in Floating Wind Technology with DemoSATH2MU Prototype Certification

Saitec Offshore Technologies, in partnership with RWE and Kansai Electric Power, has reached a major achievement in floating wind technology. The final prototype certification for the DemoSATH2MU project was awarded by Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV), a well-known certification company. This marks an important step in creating cleaner and more efficient floating wind systems.

The DemoSATH2MU platform uses an innovative technology called SATH (Swinging Around Twin HulDemoSATH Floating Wind Project Secures Final Prototype Certification from Bureau Veritasl). This technology helps floating wind turbines work better, even in deep waters. The certification from BV shows that the DemoSATH2MU project meets strict safety and performance standards. These include the safety of the platform, its structure, and how it will operate once it is in the water. The certification also covered how the platform will be powered by both low and medium-voltage electrical systems.

Getting this certification wasn’t easy. It involved reviewing many aspects of the project, like the design of the platform, how it will be anchored in place (mooring systems), and its electrical safety. The process ensures that everything meets high international standards like BV’s own NR 572 rules. This thorough check gives confidence that the platform will work well when it’s deployed.

Irati Larrinaga, who leads the engineering work at Saitec, spoke about this important moment for the team. She shared her pride, saying, “This certification shows that our hard work over the last decade is paying off. Having a third party, like Bureau Veritas, check and approve the design means we are making real progress in the field of floating wind technology.”

This prototype certification of DemoSATH2MU is more than just a technical achievement. It shows the world that floating wind energy can become a strong part of clean energy solutions. With SATH technology now proven to meet strict standards, it brings us closer to using floating wind power in a big way, which can help reduce our reliance on traditional energy sources and support a cleaner environment.
