Philippine Navy's BRP Tarlac Arrives in Indonesia

The Philippine Navy’s lead Tarlac-class landing platform dock, BRP Tarlac (LD-601), has docked in Indonesia for essential maintenance and repairs. The vessel is currently at the PT PAL Indonesia facility in Surabaya, where it will undergo services aimed at enhancing its combat readiness and operational sustainability. Commissioned in 2016, the BRP Tarlac plays a crucial role in the navy’s Sealift Amphibious Force, which is responsible for various logistical and operational tasks.
Significance of the Tarlac-Class Vessel
The BRP Tarlac is a significant asset for the Philippine Navy, measuring 123 meters (404 feet) in length and featuring a beam of 22 meters (72 feet). This vessel can accommodate up to 120 personnel and has the capacity to transport vehicles, landing craft, and rigid-hull boats. It can also carry a helicopter comparable to the AgustaWestland AW109 or approximately 300 additional amphibious troops. Powered by diesel engines generating over 3,900 horsepower each, the BRP Tarlac can reach speeds of 16 knots (30 kilometers/18 miles per hour). It boasts an impressive operational range of approximately 9,300 nautical miles (17,224 kilometers/10,702 miles) and can sustain missions for up to 30 days. The construction of the Tarlac-class vessels began in 2015, with their design based on the Indonesian Navy’s Makassar-class landing platform dock. PT PAL Indonesia’s Production Director, Diana Rosa, expressed pride in the ongoing collaboration with the Philippine Navy, emphasizing the strengthening ties between the two nations in modernizing naval capabilities.
