Fishing vessel SAS 107 Crampas experienced engine failure

On January 23, the fishing vessel SAS 107 Crampas experienced engine failure while operating in the Baltic Sea, approximately five nautical miles off the coast of Rügen, Germany. The 18-meter-long vessel became disabled and drifted in rough seas, with wind gusts reaching up to 74 kilometers per hour. Fortunately, the crew of three aboard the Crampas was unharmed, and no damage or pollution was reported.

Rescue Operation Details

Upon receiving the distress call from the *SAS 107 Crampas*, the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGZRS) promptly dispatched the 36-meter-long rescue boat *Harro Koebke*. This vessel, identified by its IMO number 9606625, was equipped to handle the challenging conditions at sea. In addition to the *Harro Koebke*, the 27-meter-long salvage vessel *Arkona*, with IMO number 8646379, joined the rescue efforts.

The two vessels worked together to establish a towline, successfully securing the *Crampas* and towing it back to safety in Sassnitz. The operation showcased the effectiveness of maritime rescue coordination in adverse weather conditions. The swift response from the DGZRS and the collaboration between the rescue and salvage vessels ensured the safety of the crew and the integrity of the marine environment. This incident highlights the importance of maritime safety measures and the readiness of rescue services to respond to emergencies at sea.
