Indian Register of Shipping Teams Up with SeaTech to Build Green Tugs and Eco-Friendly Vessels

IRS and SeaTech Partner to Design Green Ships and Promote Sustainable Shipping Solutions

Indian Register of Shipping and SeaTech Join Hands to Build Green Tugs and Eco-Friendly Ships

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), a respected global ship classification society, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SeaTech Solutions International from Singapore. This new partnership aims to develop sustainable maritime solutions, focusing on designing eco-friendly tugs and green harbor vessels for worldwide use.

Building the Future of Green Shipping

With this agreement, IRS and SeaTech will work together to promote environmental-friendly ships that meet international standards. SeaTech will lead the way in designing green tugs using the latest eco-friendly technologies. The Indian Register of Shipping will carefully inspect and approve these designs, ensuring they meet the highest global and local requirements for sustainability.

These vessels will not only support harbor operations but will also play a key role in cutting carbon emissions and improving fuel efficiency.

Supporting India’s Green Shipping Plan

A major part of this collaboration is linked to India’s Green Tug Transition Program (GTTP) and the “Harit Nauka – Green Transition Guidelines”. These guidelines, created by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, focus on turning older vessels into green, environmentally friendly vessels. SeaTech will ensure that their new vessel designs align with these guidelines, and IRS will approve and certify them based on strict regulatory standards.

Focus on Skill Development and Training

Apart from designing new green vessels, this partnership will include training programs for maritime professionals. IRS will offer special training sessions to improve the skills of SeaTech’s engineers. This will include plan approval training to help engineers understand the technical requirements for green vessel designs.

These programs aim to boost knowledge in green technology, helping maritime professionals stay up-to-date with the latest eco-friendly innovations.

Collaborative Research for a Sustainable Future

The MOU also lays the foundation for research projects to address major challenges in the maritime sector. Together, IRS and SeaTech will explore alternative fuels, decarbonization methods, and ways to improve vessel efficiency. These efforts will focus on reducing the environmental impact of shipping.

Leaders Speak on the Partnership

Mr. P. K. Mishra, Managing Director of IRS, said, “This partnership highlights our dedication to sustainable shipping. By working with SeaTech, we can shape the future of green shipping through innovation and global collaboration.”

Mr. G. S. Chopra, Managing Director of SeaTech, added, “We are excited to partner with IRS and work towards a greener future for shipping through Greentech solutions.”

Driving Sustainable Innovation in Shipping

This collaboration between IRS and SeaTech is a step forward for the entire maritime industry. By focusing on eco-friendly vessels, training, and research, they are setting an example for the rest of the world. Their joint efforts will not only help meet international environmental standards but will also encourage other shipping companies to adopt sustainable practices.
