MOL-Operated Energy Navigator Earns 2023 ‘Best Quality Ship Award’

Japan Federation of Pilots' Associations Honors Safe Operation Measures

TOKYO—Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Takeshi Hashimoto) announced that the Japan Federation of Pilots’ Associations (JFPA) has awarded its Best Quality Ship Award for fiscal year 2023 to the MOL-operated LNG carrier, Energy Navigator.

Founded in 2003, the award aims to raise awareness of port and ocean environmental protection through the safe operation of vessels. It is presented to “excellent vessels from the viewpoint of pilots,” as selected by the JFPA.

For the FY2023 awards, eight vessels, including the one operated by MOL, were selected from those requesting pilot operations at pilotage districts throughout Japan. To date, over 20 MOL-related vessels have received this prestigious award.

For this year’s evaluation, the JFPA conducted a comprehensive assessment of efforts to properly maintain nautical and boarding equipment, implement safety measures, and establish a cooperative system among crewmembers, including captains, for pilots who guide the vessels. These criteria led to the selection of the winning ships.

As MOL strives to become the world leader in safe operations, it continually aims to contribute to marine safety and the conservation of the global environment, positioning itself as a synergistic, sustainable company that grows in harmony with society.
