Qatar’s New Shipyard to Boost Maritime Services and Create Jobs
Qatar’s Marsa Free Zone will soon have a brand-new shipyard, called the Milaha Yachts and Ships Yard, thanks to a recent deal between Qatar Navigation (Milaha) and the Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ). This project is set to make Qatar an even stronger center for global maritime services.
A Commitment to Maritime Excellence
The agreement to build the new shipyard is part of Milaha and QFZ’s plan to make Qatar a leading hub for maritime services. They want to create more job opportunities, with a special focus on attracting Qatari workers and experts. This project will help the country by bringing in talented people and improving the skills of those already in the industry.
What the New Yard Will Offer
The Milaha Yachts and Ships Yard will be located at Marsa Port, inside the Umm Alhoul Free Zone. It will cover a large area of 22,000 square meters. The new shipyard will include two big covered sheds, three workshops, and a large open yard. These facilities will allow Milaha to offer a wide range of services to customers.
Some of the key services planned for the yard include:
- Maintenance for luxury yachts, naval ships, and wooden boats.
- Refitting and upgrading the exterior of vessels.
- Repairing and modifying ships to meet new standards.
This new shipyard will help meet the growing demand for high-quality maintenance and repairs, making it a valuable addition to the maritime sector.

Why Marsa Port is the Perfect Location
Marsa Port, located near Hamad Port, has a draught (water depth) of 7.5 meters, which is deep enough to handle various types of vessels. This makes it a great spot for building and fixing ships. The port is already home to many companies involved in maritime activities, like:
- Shipbuilding and repairs
- Interior design and outfitting for vessels
- Providing supplies to ships
The port also has a Synchro Lift—a special platform that can lift vessels up to 70 meters long and weighing as much as 2,200 tonnes. This advanced equipment will make the Milaha Yachts and Ships Yard capable of handling a wide variety of ships and boats.
Building a Stronger Future for Qatar’s Maritime Industry
The new shipyard is not just about business; it’s about preparing Qatar for a future where the country plays a bigger role in global maritime activities. By investing in projects like this, Qatar aims to strengthen its economy, create high-quality jobs, and attract more skilled workers. It’s a big step towards making Qatar a top choice for maritime services in the region and beyond.
