Norwegian Car Carriers Orders New Dual-Fuel Vessel from Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore

Norwegian Car Carriers (NOCC) has signed a contract with Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore for the construction of a new pure car and truck carrier. This vessel, which will be the fourth in a series that includes the NOCC Pacific, is set to enhance NOCC’s fleet with advanced capabilities. The announcement was made recently, highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding its operations in the maritime transport sector.
The new carrier will measure 199.99 meters in length and 38 meters in beam, with a design draught of 8.6 meters and a depth of 14.8 meters. This design will allow the vessel to accommodate a variety of cargo types, including taller vehicles such as buses and construction machinery. The ship will feature hoistable vehicle decks, enhancing its versatility in cargo handling. Additionally, a stern ramp rated for 225 tonnes will facilitate the loading and unloading of heavy cargo.
Innovative Propulsion and Design Features
One of the standout features of this new vessel is its dual-fuel propulsion system. The ship will be capable of operating on marine gas oil (MGO), very low sulphur fuel oil, or liquefied natural gas (LNG). This flexibility not only aligns with global trends towards more sustainable shipping practices but also positions NOCC as a forward-thinking player in the maritime industry.
The design of the vessel is being handled by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute, ensuring that it meets modern standards for efficiency and safety. The collaboration between NOCC and Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore underscores a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the capabilities of NOCC’s fleet while adhering to environmental regulations.
