Peel Ports Unveils £750m Construction Framework
Peel Ports Group has announced the appointment of 18 contractors for a new construction framework valued at up to £750 million ($968.9 million). This initiative will support a variety of construction projects across its sites in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The framework, which has a potential duration of eight years, is designed to enhance Peel Ports’ infrastructure and contribute to its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
Framework Details and Contractor Selection
The newly established framework is divided into three distinct lots, each targeting specific construction needs. Lot 1, titled General Construction, encompasses a wide range of tasks including drainage, road and car park construction, earthworks, ground remediation, and warehouse maintenance. Lot 2, known as Marine Construction, focuses on specialized marine works such as piling, quay walls, and lock maintenance. The third lot, Major Projects, is designated for large-scale developments across the nation.
The contractors selected for this framework include notable firms such as A E Yates, C Spencer, Charles Brand, Erith Contractors, Glencar, GPS Marine & Civil Services, J Murphy & Sons, and Jackson Framework, among others. These regional and national suppliers will play a crucial role in supporting projects across Peel Ports Group’s extensive portfolio, which includes key locations like the Port of Liverpool, Heysham Port, Manchester Ship Canal, London Medway, Great Yarmouth, and Dublin Port.
Peel Ports Group has emphasized the importance of adhering to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards throughout the tender process. Additionally, local community engagement remains a priority as the company moves forward with its construction plans. The framework is expected to significantly enhance Peel Ports’ long-term construction pipeline, which includes both upgrades to existing infrastructure and the development of new projects. Notably, in December 2024, Peel Ports Clydeport received planning permission for a £150 million upgrade of the Hunterston marine yard in Ayrshire, Scotland. This project is poised to play a vital role in advancing offshore wind power along the UK’s west coast, aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainability.
