Rafael Secures Contract with NATO Navy for Electronic Countermeasure

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Signs Big Deal to Protect NATO Ships with Digital Shark Technology

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, a leading company in defense technology, has just signed an important contract with a NATO country. This deal will supply NATO ships with a new, cutting-edge defense system called “Digital Shark.” This system, showcased at the EURONAVAL 2024 event, is designed to protect ships from threats using advanced electronic countermeasures.

What is the Digital Shark System?

Digital Shark is a special technology created by Rafael to help protect naval forces. The system is part of Rafael’s Electronic Warfare (EW) lineup and is made to detect and stop radar threats. This means it can find enemy radar systems on missiles or other dangerous equipment and block them. With its digital design, Digital Shark can find different kinds of radar threats automatically and very quickly.

How Does It Work?

The Digital Shark uses powerful tools like a digital receiver and a special feature called Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA). AESA helps the system send and direct high-energy beams at enemy radars to make them stop working. This technology is fast and can quickly change its beam’s direction to block radar signals. Once Digital Shark finds a threat, it can use high-power beams to jam, or block, enemy radars so they can’t see or target the NATO ships.

Another important part of Digital Shark is its Digital RF Memory (DRFM). DRFM technology allows the system to “trick” enemy radars, making them see false information. This makes it hard for enemy forces to get a real view of NATO ships, helping keep them safe from attacks.

What Makes the Digital Shark Special?

Digital Shark is one of the most advanced naval defense tools in Rafael’s lineup. It is part of a family of naval protection systems, including Rafael’s C-GEM active decoy. The C-GEM system works alongside Digital Shark to add extra protection by creating distractions for enemy radars, so they can’t find NATO ships as easily.

With both Digital Shark and C-GEM, NATO naval forces have a stronger defense against modern radar threats. This helps them stay safe and gives them an advantage in difficult sea conditions.

Why This Matters for Naval Defense

The addition of Digital Shark to NATO’s defense tools shows Rafael’s commitment to providing top-level protection for naval forces. In today’s world, where ships face many threats, having strong electronic countermeasures is important for any navy. Systems like Digital Shark offer high-tech solutions that are essential for protecting naval forces and keeping their missions safe.
