Tanjung Embang Welcomes Major Development Projects
KUCHING (Jan 27) — Tanjung Embang is set to undergo significant transformation with the announcement of two major projects: a deep-sea port and a new international airport. These developments aim to enhance the region’s infrastructure and boost local employment opportunities, particularly for the youth. Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni, emphasized the positive impact these projects will have on the community’s standard of living. Local leaders and residents have expressed their support, viewing these initiatives as a gift from the Sarawak government.
Community Support and Future Prospects
The Tanjung Embang area, which spans 15,000 hectares, is located within the Demak Laut state constituency and is home to seven villages. The community is optimistic about the potential benefits of the new deep-sea port and international airport. Dr. Hazland highlighted the importance of these projects in accommodating larger vessels and improving air travel within Malaysia. Currently, existing ports in Sarawak are unable to handle the increasing frequency of ship calls, making the deep-sea port a crucial addition.
Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, noted that the new airport will facilitate better connectivity for aircraft operating within Malaysian airspace. Local leaders, including Tanjung Embang regional chief Penghulu Bolhassan Ibrahim, hailed the projects as significant opportunities for the younger generation. He urged the youth to prepare themselves with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet future labor demands.
Village headman Pauji Ameng expressed confidence that these projects would reshape the region’s development landscape. He also emphasized the need for smaller-scale projects to continue during the waiting period for these mega developments. The community’s enthusiasm reflects a collective hope for improved economic prospects and enhanced quality of life in Tanjung Embang. As the construction of the Sejingkat Bridge progresses, access to the city center will also improve, further integrating Tanjung Embang into the broader Kuching Division.
