Wärtsilä’s Key Role in Singapore’s Next-Generation Vessel Traffic Management System

Wärtsilä has been selected to participate in the development of Singapore’s Next Generation Vessel Traffic Management System (NGVTMS), a major project initiated by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). This system is designed to enhance the safety and efficiency of operations at one of the world’s busiest ports. As global maritime traffic increases, advanced traffic management solutions are essential, and Wärtsilä’s expertise is instrumental in shaping these advancements. The project, awarded in April 2024, highlights Singapore’s focus on digital transformation and leveraging AI to boost maritime safety.

MPA continues to extend its support to the US Coast Guard and local authorities

Over the next 15 months, Wärtsilä will collaborate at MPA’s Maritime Innovation Lab to develop a system with open architecture, integrating advanced data analytics and machine learning algorithms. These capabilities aim to identify traffic hotspots and predict potential collisions, enhancing the management of complex maritime traffic scenarios. Wärtsilä’s deep domain knowledge and innovative technology will help redefine standards in maritime traffic management, contributing to Singapore’s broader vision for a more connected and efficient port system.

Wärtsilä’s track record in Vessel Traffic Management Systems, with over 300 installations in more than 55 countries, underlines its commitment to maritime safety and sustainability. The company’s involvement in this project aligns with its mission to promote sustainable societies through technological innovation, playing a crucial role in Singapore’s efforts to create a greener, smarter maritime sector.
