Wärtsilä’s lead in Cargo Handling Systems continues with contract for four new VLAC vessels

Wärtsilä Secures Contract for Cargo Systems on New Ammonia Ships

Wärtsilä to Deliver Advanced Systems for New Large Ammonia Carriers

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, a division of Wärtsilä Group, has won another major contract to supply advanced cargo handling systems for four large ammonia-carrying vessels. These Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLAC) will each have a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters. Greek shipowner Naftomar ordered the vessels, and the systems will be installed at the Korean shipyard Hanwha Ocean Co. (formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering). Wärtsilä confirmed that the contract was signed during the third quarter of 2024, with delivery scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025.

Wärtsilä’s Proven Cargo Technology

Wärtsilä’s cargo handling systems are built with modern technology based on years of experience and research. These systems not only ensure the safe and efficient operation of gas carriers but also help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and operating costs. The technology also improves a vessel’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), making the ships environmentally friendlier.

Mr. Lee, the Team Leader of Basic Design at Hanwha Ocean Co., expressed confidence in Wärtsilä’s technology:

“We are happy to work with Wärtsilä again. Based on our past experiences, we trust these systems are the best option for our vessels.”

Patrick Ha, Sales Manager of Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, commented:

“We have a strong relationship with Hanwha Ocean and recently completed deliveries for 12 vessels with them. We are also excited to work with Naftomar again. These repeat orders show that our customers trust our systems, and it reinforces our position as a market leader.”
