Advario and Power2X will build e-SAF hub at Port of Rotterdam.
Power2X and Advario Create Global Hub for Green Aviation Fuel in Rotterdam
Power2X and Advario are working together to build a massive center for clean fuels at the Port of Rotterdam. This new hub will focus on producing sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF), a special type of fuel made without fossil fuels. The plant aims to become one of the largest producers of ultra-low carbon fuels in the world.
Massive Production Capacity for Clean Fuel
The Power2X plant will generate more than 250,000 tons of e-SAF each year. This synthetic fuel is made using green hydrogen, which is produced through renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power. Unlike regular jet fuel, this type of fuel reduces harmful emissions. With this amount of production, the hub could fuel 7,000 flights annually between Amsterdam and New York, significantly lowering pollution in the aviation industry.
Using Green Methanol to Boost Production
Along with green hydrogen, the plant will use green methanol as a raw material. Green methanol is made from renewable energy and biogenic carbon, a type of carbon from natural sources like plants. The green methanol will be imported from countries with strong renewable energy capabilities, ensuring a steady supply of eco-friendly materials.

Advario’s New Storage Facility Supports the Supply Chain
To support this clean energy project, Advario will build a modern storage and logistics facility with a capacity of 230,000 cubic meters. This facility will be connected to both railways and shipping routes, ensuring that green fuel flows smoothly across Europe. The Port of Rotterdam’s central location will allow the hub to quickly deliver e-SAF to European airports, such as Amsterdam Schiphol, a key airport for international travel.
Transforming the Aluchemie Site into a Green Energy Hub
Since April 2023, Power2X and Advario have been working to transform the 26-hectare Aluchemie site in Rotterdam into a center for clean energy solutions. The site’s waterfront location and its connection to the important hydrogen pipeline make it ideal for future green energy projects. This development will not only boost Rotterdam’s position as an energy hub but also support Europe’s decarbonization goals.
Supporting the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation
The use of sustainable aviation fuel is becoming essential for reducing CO2 emissions. e-SAF can lower lifecycle carbon emissions by 90% compared to regular jet fuel. The ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation will come into effect in 2030, requiring airlines to increase the use of sustainable aviation fuel. This hub will help meet these new rules by producing 40% of the required fuel, making it a critical part of Europe’s clean energy future.
A Future-Ready Solution for Green Energy
Power2X and Advario are committed to creating future-proof energy solutions. Their efforts are not only helping the aviation industry reduce its environmental impact but also supporting innovation in clean energy. This project will bring Europe closer to a carbon-free future and set a new standard for green aviation fuel production worldwide.
