Cruise Line Planning a Unique Christening for Its Newest Ship

TUI Cruises Plans Unique Ship Christening Event

TUI Cruises is set to host a remarkable christening event for its newest ship, the Mein Schiff Relax. This event promises to be a memorable occasion, featuring renowned British singer Robbie Williams as the headline performer. The christening will take place on April 9, 2025, in the picturesque port of Malaga, Spain. What makes this event even more special is the involvement of two sister ships, Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 7, which will serve as godmothers to the new vessel. With an expected attendance of around 15,000 guests, the event will be a grand celebration of maritime tradition and entertainment.

A Star-Studded Celebration

The christening ceremony will be a blend of tradition and modern entertainment. Robbie Williams, who gained fame as a member of the boy band Take That and later as a successful solo artist, will perform an outdoor concert for the guests. His performance will be visible to all passengers at the port, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the show. The event will also include the traditional smashing of a champagne bottle against the ship’s bow, a time-honored ritual that symbolizes good fortune for the vessel. Additionally, a spectacular light show will enhance the festive atmosphere.

Guests aboard Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 7 will not incur any extra charges to witness Williams’ performance. Both ships are promoting special christening cruises, allowing passengers to be part of this historic occasion. The Mein Schiff 5 will embark on a 10-day cruise starting April 3, 2025, visiting beautiful destinations such as Madeira, Lisbon, and Valencia. Meanwhile, Mein Schiff 7 will arrive in Malaga during its 14-day cruise from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, which begins on March 30, 2025. This unique opportunity allows guests to experience the christening festivities while enjoying a luxurious cruise.

The New Ship: Mein Schiff Relax

The Mein Schiff Relax is the first ship in TUI Cruises’ new InTUItion class. It will be the eighth vessel in the fleet and the first to bear a name without a number. The ship is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, and is designed to be environmentally friendly. Both the Mein Schiff Relax and its upcoming sister ship, Mein Schiff Flow, will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), significantly reducing emissions. They will also feature advanced wastewater treatment systems and shore power connections to minimize their environmental impact.

Construction of the Mein Schiff Relax began in 2022, and the ship has already completed two sets of sea trials, testing its propulsion, maneuverability, and safety systems. Following the christening ceremony, the ship will offer a variety of stateroom categories, a two-story theater, and multiple dining options, including a Japanese restaurant and a bistro serving classic French cuisine. The ship will primarily operate in the Western Mediterranean, offering 7- to 10-night cruises between Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. With its unique features and commitment to sustainability, the Mein Schiff Relax is poised to become a favorite among cruise enthusiasts.
