New Tugboat Enhances Caspian Sea Fleet

Azerbaijan’s maritime capabilities have received a significant boost with the recent launch of a new tugboat named Azikh. Built at the Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Plant (ZGTTZ) of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company CJSC (ASCO), this vessel is now officially part of the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet. The introduction of Azikh marks a notable achievement for ASCO, showcasing their commitment to enhancing the operational efficiency of maritime services in the region.

Specifications and Features of the Azikh Tugboat

The Azikh tugboat boasts impressive specifications that underline its utility and performance. Measuring 24.72 meters in length and 6.60 meters in width, the vessel is designed for both stability and maneuverability. Its height from the waterline is 3 meters, and it has a draft of 1.6 meters, allowing it to navigate various water conditions effectively. The tugboat has a deadweight capacity of 14 tons, making it suitable for a range of towing and support tasks.

Equipped with a crew of seven, the Azikh can reach speeds of up to 9 knots. This speed is crucial for timely operations, especially in the dynamic environment of the Caspian Sea. Additionally, the tugboat can carry up to 3 tons of cargo on board, enhancing its versatility for different maritime operations. The design and construction of the Azikh adhere to international standards, ensuring safety and reliability during its service.

Azikh is the fifth vessel constructed at the ZGTTZ plant. Prior to this, ASCO successfully built and delivered four similar tugboats: Tarterchay, Hekarichay, and Bergushadchay. The ongoing construction of another ship in this series indicates ASCO’s commitment to expanding its fleet and improving maritime operations in the region.

ASCO’s Commitment to Shipbuilding and Engineering

The Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Plant has been a hub for shipbuilding since 2017. ASCO has invested in modernizing its facilities and acquiring the necessary certifications to ensure high-quality construction and repair services. The design of the Azikh and other vessels in its series was carried out by the skilled engineers at ASCO Engineering LLC. Their expertise ensures that each ship meets the rigorous demands of maritime operations.

ASCO’s shipbuilding efforts are not limited to tugboats. The company offers a wide range of professional ship repair and marine engineering services. This comprehensive approach allows ASCO to maintain a competitive edge in the maritime industry. The successful launch of the Azikh tugboat is a testament to ASCO’s dedication to innovation and quality in shipbuilding.
