Royal Caribbean Celebrates Keel-Laying of fourth Icon Class Ship

Royal Caribbean has marked a significant milestone in its fleet expansion with the keel-laying of its fourth Icon Class ship at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The ceremony, which took place this month, featured the traditional lowering of the first steel block onto a bed of freshly minted coins, a maritime custom believed to bring good fortune to the vessel and its crew. This unnamed ship is set to join the innovative Icon Class, which already includes the recently launched Icon of the Seas and the upcoming Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas.

Icon Class Revolutionizes Cruise Experience

The Icon Class is transforming the cruise industry with its groundbreaking designs and features. The inaugural ship, Icon of the Seas, entered service in early 2024 and has set new benchmarks for onboard entertainment, family-friendly amenities, and overall scale. Following closely, Star of the Seas launched this summer, enhancing the cruise experience with fresh offerings and diverse itineraries. The next ship in line, Legend of the Seas, is currently under construction and is expected to begin operations in 2026.

Royal Caribbean’s commitment to this innovative class is evident as they continue to expand their fleet. The fourth Icon Class ship will embody the same principles that have defined its predecessors, blending thrilling adventures with family-oriented attractions, a variety of dining options, and ample relaxation spaces. The company emphasizes that each ship in the Icon Class redefines what it means to vacation at sea, promising an unparalleled experience for guests.

The keel-laying ceremony signifies the official commencement of the ship’s physical construction, marking the moment when the vessel begins to take shape in the dry dock. As the construction progresses over the next two years, more details regarding the ship’s name and onboard features are anticipated to be revealed in the coming months, further exciting cruise enthusiasts and potential travelers alike.
