MSC Cruises has forged a significant partnership with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft, announcing the construction of four next-generation cruise vessels. This landmark agreement, which includes options for two additional ships, is part of MSC’s innovative “New Frontier” platform. The deal not only secures production capacity at the Papenburg shipyard through the next decade but also strengthens Europe’s position in the cruise shipbuilding industry.

The agreement was unveiled on Monday at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin, highlighting its broader economic implications. The “New Frontier” class vessels are designed to accommodate up to 5,400 passengers each, with a gross tonnage of approximately 180,000. These ships will incorporate advanced environmental technologies, aligning with MSC’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Deliveries are set to commence in 2030, with one vessel scheduled for delivery each year. This agreement not only promises operational stability for Meyer Werft, which employs over 3,200 people directly, but also supports more than 20,000 jobs across Germany through its supplier network.
