Zhoushan Ningxing Shipbuilding and Repair Secures 28,000 DWT Duplex Stainless

On August 21, a significant contract was finalized between Yangzijiang Maritime and Taihua Ship Management for the construction of 4+2 28,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers. This collaborative project is set to take place at Zhoushan Ningxing Shipbuilding and Repair Co., Ltd.

Cutting-Edge Design for Liquid Cargo Transport

Zhoushan Ningxing Shipbuilding and Repair revealed that the 28,000 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tanker outlined in the contract boasts a state-of-the-art liquid cargo hold design widely embraced in the industry. This design makes it ideal for transporting an array of clean liquid cargoes, including fine chemicals and refined oil products. The vessel’s standout features include exceptional corrosion resistance, top-notch safety standards, and environmental performance, aligning perfectly with the global shift towards eco-friendly and advanced liquid cargo carriers.

Expanding Portfolio and Strategic Partnerships

This particular vessel type represents the flagship product line of Zhoushan Ningxing Shipbuilding and Repair, reflecting the shipyard’s long-standing dedication to constructing duplex stainless steel chemical tankers. Notably, the shipyard has already delivered over 10 stainless steel vessels this year, showcasing its expertise in this domain.

In a strategic move, the company has deepened its collaboration with leading domestic shipping entities, securing contracts for 30 5,300 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tankers with both domestic and international shipowners. With a current order backlog exceeding 50 vessels and negotiations ongoing for 40 prospective orders, the total order value surpasses 15 billion yuan. These vessels include 13,800 DWT, 33,000 DWT, 13,800 DWT, and 4,000 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tankers.

This recent contract marks the second new shipbuilding project unveiled by Yangzijiang Maritime, following reports that the company had enlisted Jiangsu Haifeng Shipbuilding for the construction of four 50,000 DWT MR product tankers and two 115,000 DWT LR2 product tankers, with deliveries scheduled to commence in 2028.

As of the first half of 2026, Yangzijiang Maritime’s fleet has expanded to encompass over 120 vessels, including more than 60 newly built ships spanning various types such as oil tankers, gas carriers, bulk carriers, container ships, and offshore support vessels, with a primary emphasis on the bulk carrier and oil tanker segments.
