Dutch Dredging company, Baggerbedrijf de Boer, recently celebrated the arrival of their latest addition to the fleet, the 2,300 m³ trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Magdalena, in Haiphong, Vietnam. The ceremony marking the handover of the new vessel took place earlier this week, marking a significant milestone for the company.
Built by Nam Trieu Shipbuilding
The impressive TSHD Magdalena was constructed by Nam Trieu Shipbuilding, a division under Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. With an overall length of 79.95 meters and a beam of 15 meters, this dredging vessel was meticulously designed by Royal IHC to meet the demanding requirements of modern dredging operations.
Environmental Compliance and Upgrades
The keel laying ceremony for the TSHD Magdalena was held in March 2025, signaling the beginning of its journey to completion. This new dredger represents an upgrade from its predecessor, the Lesse, which was also delivered by Royal IHC to Dutch Dredging in 2019. Notably, the TSHD Magdalena is in full compliance with the latest environmental regulations, including the IMO Tier III – Euro Stage V standards, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices.
