Wärtsilä Corporation has signed a five-year lifecycle agreement with NMDC Group, a leading dredging and marine contractor in the Middle East. This partnership aims to enhance the operational efficiency and availability of NMDC’s dredging fleet. The agreement, booked in Q1 2025, covers seven of NMDC’s dredgers and may expand to include more vessels in the future.
Enhancing Dredging Operations
The Lifecycle Agreement includes a customized maintenance program for the engine and propulsion systems of NMDC’s vessels. It also incorporates digital solutions and performance guarantees designed to boost fleet availability and reduce maintenance costs. With increasing demand for its services, NMDC recognizes that vessel availability is crucial for its operations. By utilizing Wärtsilä’s advanced digital tools, such as Expert Insight, NMDC expects to significantly minimize planned downtime. This reduction in downtime could lead to increased revenues, with estimates suggesting potential additional earnings of up to 3 million EUR.
Furthermore, the contract features Dynamic Maintenance Planning, which is projected to lower maintenance costs by 14%. Peter Marvin, Chief Technical & Resource Pool Officer at NMDC Group, emphasized the importance of this agreement, stating, “Increasing availability and reducing downtime of our vessels is a priority for our company.” He noted that the partnership with Wärtsilä is vital for advancing reliable and sustainable operations in the region.
