Seanergy Maritime Buys Two Japanese-Built Capesize Vessels for $130M in Fleet Renewal Push

Greek dry bulk shipowner Seanergy Maritime has recently announced a significant agreement to acquire two Capesize bulk carriers built at Japanese shipyards for approximately $130 million. This move is part of the company’s ongoing fleet renewal program, which now encompasses eight vessels with a total value of $591 million.

Expansion of Fleet with New Acquisitions

The latest transaction involves a 181,000 DWT bulk carrier equipped with a scrubber, set for delivery in the first half of 2029. Additionally, a 182,162 DWT bulk carrier built in 2022 has been acquired on a forward-delivery basis and is expected to join the fleet between late 2028 and the second quarter of 2029. Details regarding the sellers and shipyards involved in this acquisition have not been disclosed.

Continued Growth in Fleet Renewal Program

This recent acquisition marks another step forward in Seanergy Maritime’s fleet renewal program. In the past, the shipowner had announced orders for six large bulk carriers with a total value of approximately $460 million. These orders include three Capesize vessels from Hengli Heavy Industry, one Newcastlemax vessel from Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS), and two Capesize vessels from Imabari Shipbuilding. All these vessels are scheduled for delivery by the second quarter of 2028.

According to information provided by Seanergy Maritime, long-term charter contracts have been secured for all three new vessels scheduled for delivery by Hengli Heavy Industries in 2027. Two vessels, to be named “Primeship” and “Chrysship,” have been chartered to a European operator for five years, with options to extend the term. The third vessel has been chartered to a mining company for four years, with similar extension options.

Updates on the rest of Seanergy Maritime’s fleet include the chartering of the “Kaizenship” to Oldendorff, the “Blueship” to NYK, and extensions of existing charters for the “Fellowship” and “Friendship.”

Driven by multiple charter agreements, Seanergy Maritime reported a record-high net profit of $26.2 million for the second quarter of 2026, showcasing a significant increase from the previous year’s figure of $2.9 million.
