Wind Turbine Installation Vessel Delivered to Cadeler
Cadeler Expands Fleet with the Addition of New Wind Peak Vessel
Cadeler has recently welcomed the latest addition to its fleet, the Wind Peak, marking the delivery of the first of seven newbuild vessels currently under contract. This P-class jack-up installation vessel, constructed at the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (COSCO) shipyard in Qidong, China, was officially named during a ceremony at the shipyard.
The P-class vessels are engineered to handle some of the most significant wind turbine components in the offshore wind sector. According to Cadeler’s CEO, Mikkel Gleerup, the successful delivery of the Wind Peak represents a significant milestone for the company and its project partners. He expressed satisfaction with the vessel’s timely and budget-compliant completion, highlighting its importance to Cadeler’s operational capabilities.
The P-class vessels, including the Wind Peak, are equipped to transport and install up to seven complete 15 MW turbine sets or five 20+ MW turbine sets per load. This transit capacity reduces energy consumption during installation, thereby decreasing both installation costs and the carbon footprint per turbine. The Wind Peak, along with its sister ship Wind Pace, features a vast deck space of 5,600 m², a payload capacity exceeding 17,600 tons, and a main crane capable of lifting over 2,500 tons at 53 meters. Each vessel also accommodates up to 130 crew members.
This fleet expansion is the result of collaboration with several strategic partners, including COSCO, GustoMSC NOV, Kongsberg, Huisman, and MAN Energy. The next vessel, Wind Pace, is scheduled for delivery by COSCO in Q2 2025, with both ships set to be registered in Denmark.
