Viking Announces New Ship: Viking Libra

Viking has revealed that its second newbuild for 2026 will be named the Viking Libra. This 998-guest vessel is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and is set to enter service in December 2026. The Viking Libra will follow the Viking Mira, which is also scheduled for delivery in 2026. This new addition marks the 17th vessel delivered to Viking since 2015.
Maiden Voyage and Itineraries
The Viking Libra will embark on its maiden voyage on December 3, 2026, welcoming its first paying guests in Piraeus, Greece. The inaugural cruise will span ten nights, taking passengers through the picturesque Greek Islands and Turkey. Key stops on this journey include Volos, Thessaloniki, Kusadasi, Rhodes, Santorini, Chania, and Nafplion.
After its initial season in the Mediterranean, the ship will reposition to Northern Europe in early January 2027. During the winter season, the Viking Libra will offer a variety of itineraries, including the popular “Viking Homelands” cruise. This 14-night journey will sail between Bergen and Stockholm, featuring stops in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland, and Estonia.
With a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons, the Viking Libra will also explore other stunning destinations. Planned itineraries include the North Cape, the Norwegian Fjords, and the British Isles, with departures available through August 2027. Alongside the Viking Libra, Viking will also introduce the Viking Mira in 2026, which will begin its Mediterranean cruises before transitioning to Northern Europe. Additionally, the Viking Vesta is set to launch in 2025, starting its maiden season in early July.
